You Don’t Say, Technological Growing Pains, & Misc. Tidbits

Yesterday I returned a phone call to a gal I’ve known for over forty years. She is forever asking when my husband and I will drive across state to visit. Heaven forbid she make the drive south.

~sigh~

Therefore it should come as no surprise this introvert contacts her out of loyalty more than enjoyment, especially as she so often sounds on the verge of emotional breakdown. This conversation indicated a more manic phase, which I don’t mind inasmuch as it indicated a positive mindset. But whenever I attempted to respond with my take on the current subject she talked right over me.

So I just shut up and listened with minimal murmurs of support. After a while she took a breath and said, “You’re not saying much. What have you been up to?”

Ooookay…

To my credit I didn’t laugh and just replied that there wasn’t much to say. The look on my husband’s face when I shared this was priceless.

Meanwhile, I took a rainy afternoon walk around our hilly neighborhood. The sound of raindrops on an umbrella (or roof, what have you) is so soothing. This time I stopped to photograph a colorful mailbox, never thinking to do so before Pam’s creative inspiration. ~grin~ And I know she will like the color scheme.

Purple!
And that brings me to computer issues. My laptop, while converted to Windows 10, has a ‘skin’ that mimics 7. It’s not perfect, and now I need a newer version of MS Word (I’m still using the 2003 software, believe it or not) for better compatibility. At least my iPod touch should be easy to access now.

Right? Well, not yesterday.

However, this morning I thought to go into PC settings devices Autoplay, and select the option to import pictures for the Apple iPod.

Got it! Whew…

Now if I could just get my Bluetooth keyboard to connect automatically as before. ~shakes head~ It needs to be ‘paired’ with my Bluetooth dongle every time now. That’s what happens when you choose retirement over owning the latest hardware. I’ll take that trade any day.

Ah! My husband just notified me that he’s worked out the tricks to making MS Word 2007 work in Windows 10. You can imagine how his acumen led to a long career in IT, both as an Airman and later for General Motors. Some changes he implemented remain in use, I believe.

Do you agree it’s the small wins that add quality and joy to our cluttered modern lives? What little victory have you won lately?

  1. Your conversation sounds like what I have with my mother; she talks, I 'uh huh'!
I adore my MacBook Pro, and am considering Photoshop or something similar to mess around with my images. Am considering using a watermark.

    1. I am sorry for those painful conversations and appreciate your plans for photography. If not for the fact my husband has no experience supporting Mac, I would go that route. :)

  2. I know people like her. She's only interested in how she feels and not anyone else. Bless her heart.

It's good to have and IT guy near. You're a lucky gal. I'm using old 2007 Word and Excel.

Have a fabulous day, my friend. Big hug. ♥

    1. Thank you! She makes me crazy, though she is a good person. I'm not sure how this gal pulls off the dual personality but I think it's more that she lacks personal boundaries.

  3. I guess that's why I don't call anyone anymore. Some conversations you don't need to be there for.

At this point, if you were to update Word, you'd have to do the subscription. The positive is that updates are rolled out as they happen, and when you update devices, the new Word is on it. But, it's a yearly outlay of cash to use it for another year. Sigh. (When my last laptop died, I had no choice but to upgrade and update to the subscription.)

  4. That is a cool mailbox. We don't dare paint ours or call attention to it because it will get nailed. Teens like to ride around and hit them with bats.

    1. That stinks! I'm reminded of the time someone ran over our old mailbox while we were away on vacation. We got the last laugh because neighbors said the post pierced their gas tank.

  5. HAHA....Little victory, NOPE a good size big one, yep. I am not ready to share but maybe in a couple of weeks I will be ready to share. I have always been a phone talker but over the last few years I have gotten more into socializing via blog, FB and texting. I have even sat here and let the phone ring cause I was not up to getting into a conversation with that certain person. Not that I don't like them, just not up to it all....I hate being that way and I hate that I am ok just staying home and not getting out like I used to. But...like other chronic pain folks out there, Fibro has stolen a lot from me. Just like your anxiety has taken a lot from you. Oh cool...I got a shout out here on your blog!!! Loving the mailbox. Cool blue color. I think I have gotten all the cool mailboxes around my area, and out more...I need to go to another state!! haha. I love that you are out walking, even with it raining. Pouring down rain here for two days and I am so over it....

  6. The little victories in life are awesome. That mailbox is also awesome by the way. I like color. I'll take purple over drab gray metal anyday.

    1. I wish my husband would let me spruce up our box, but he lets me do what I want inside, so that's okay. :)

  7. Your description of that conversation is exactly what mom (especially) and dad say about most people these days. Everyone's so all about "me, me, me" that most don't take the time to ask about others. Dad says he's afraid he and mom come across as antisocial, but it's not that. Enough about that, though. Yes, it's the little victories that make everything worth it.

  8. I too know some people here who are talk non-stop. It's more of a monologue rather than conversation!

O, that pitter-patter of raindrops on roofs, or like you said, on an umbrella. It fills me joy, for some reason!
