A Simple Fix

Sad to say, a while back my decades old flip flops began breaking apart. So I bought new from a local dollar store. This pair’s soles are thick and comfortable. However, the attached straps dug into my skin.

On a whim I tried swapping out the hard plastic with my old soft rubbery straps. It worked! If only I could wear them on a beach and not just to the pool.

Trading the uncomfortable
blue for orange suits me.

Ah, well. Now I have a linguistic question showing my age.

Have you ever heard flip flops called thongs? Do you prefer open or closed-to footwear?

  2. Yes, they were always thongs when I was a kid. Now with the underwear, we have to be careful. Geez.

  4. That's what we call them here, thongs or a pair of thongs. For those who don't know as you do, it can cause some amusement.

It is usually the strap that breaks first, so it is good that yours had not and you could reuse them.

  5. Oh girl friend, you know that you will not get a simple answer from me...lol....yes, have heard them called tongs before. I personally called them my flippers. I loved wearing my flippers, but in the last seven to ten years I have stopped wearing them and opted for sandal's with arches built in. The crapper is being out and about with flippers on and the strap breaks.....not easy walking around like that. haha...Closed in or opened shoes. Closed in during the winter. However, I found last winter that mules, backs open and slide ons are great. But summer, I prefer as open as they can get and still have something to support my feet! So for me, its a matter of the season

    1. This makes sense, especially arch support. ~nods~ Be well!

  6. That was a clever fix. I like the two colors together. I have heard them called thongs, but I prefer flip flops. At home I am always bare foot, but I always wear closed toe shoes. XO
