Please Pass the Salt

My Mimi Mummy, Still Out Since Halloween
The other day, SO found a new pot roast slow cooker recipe. It calls for an entire packet of dry Italian dressing seasoning, a whole envelope of powdered au jus gravy mix, four tablespoons of butter, and four or five pickled pepperoncinis. Seeing the ingredients laid out on our kitchen island and feeling suspicious, I started reading each packet’s nutritional content.

Holy cow. Agreeing to try the dish before dismissing it outright, I did remark that I feared waking up mummified. Fortunately, the huge chunk of roasted meat came out tasting delicious and I woke no thirstier than normal. In fact, I ate some for lunch the next day.

There is still a lot left. I think it will last us a while for the sake of prudence. Maybe I'll even freeze some servings.

Do you monitor your sodium intake?

  1. Yes I monitor my sodium intake. I have high blood pressure and salt is not my friend. Bugger. I saw this same recipe on Facebook this morning and passed because of all the salt.

Have a fabulous day, Darla. ♥

    1. I'm eating some more as I type. ~grin~ One thought I have is to cut the amounts of the salty stuff in half. Hmmm... Take care and have a great day, as well!

  2. Perhaps you should use the low sodium packets. In some cases they make them.

  3. Nope...I do not! But we all should. I do not take BP meds since my surgery either. Doc apt yesterday for follow up on the added gabapentin and my BP was 118/70. Sugar was 93 which is awesome! So things are going well. Thank you for always checking. As for the directions for the meal....please post. Also, I would love to see what you did for your wedding! Ambers colors at pale yellow and lavender with the rustic look. I have burlap that I will be working into things. I joked with Amber about it being a good thing I did not do away with all my craft stuff even though I had thought about it and she got onto me for being a hoarder! haha....those craft things are coming in handy!

  4. I LOVE salt! Hubby says I put salt on my salt. Fortunately, I don't seem to have any health issues from my love of salt. I don't know if I could handle trying to limit it.

  5. Yes, I do. I have to. Lymphedema makes me blow up like a Puffer Fish! Thankfully, I am not into salt, like a trucker that I know. *wink*
I love slow cooking! Got any good, "healthy" ones? LOVE YOU!

  7. The mummy is funny. I try to keep the sodium intake low, but it is tough. I do get extra thirsty when I have too much.
