Learn Something New Every Day, and Laugh

Watching television last night, SO and I learned that a Japanese architect wants to build the world’s tallest wooden skyscraper. Let me reiterate. This is a tower fabricated out of wood… In Japan, a country prone to earthquakes.

It boggles the mind. Without missing a beat I turned in my seat. SO hit pause. Forgive me for what comes next.

Not Sure He Intends to Add Plants (which seems even more disastrous)
“I have the perfect name for it,” I said.

“What?”

“Jenga.”

“And we’ll next hear about Jenga Tower on ‘Engineering Disasters’.”

I almost choked. We paused the streamed Internet broadcast for about five minutes to recover.

Given the chance, would you choose to live in any skyscraper?

  1. I live in California and we have earthquakes here. I would not want to live in a wood skyscraper. Ever. Okay, I don't want to live in a skyscraper at all. I love your sense of humor.

Have a fabulous day and weekend. ♥

  2. NOPE....I think maybe I could go as far as 3rd floor in an apartment bldg!!! Not that I have a fear of heights but I want to know that I can get out the door fast if I have too. I think I could run down 3 flieights of stairs if need be! Love what you came up with!! That was some fast thinking. I think you and I would get into a lot of trouble if we lived close to each other!!! Yep, TROUBLE full of FUN!

  3. No, I am afraid of heights. I don't go out on balconies either! I also do not drive across bridges (the big ones, like the Bay Bridge - did once, had to pick up my mother from SFO - never again). Even the highway bridges across Lake Shasta, CA, (moving to Oregon) made my palms sweaty! Oh, I have an abnormal fear (if fears are ever "normal") of dams! It's my parents fault. Growing up you wouldn't believe how many dams we would encounter on vacations. Each one would have us walk to the middle and my mother would urge me to, "Look down, Lisa! Look down!" Then there was the Sunol Water Temple... picnics and "looking down" at that rushing water. THAT is the worst! Beautiful building, horror to a child! I can't even look at photos!

  4. OK, that... Yeah, I'd be laughing too. Although, you want skyscrapers to bend in earthquakes (sway, so they don't break), so, maybe...

But, when they start building the "world's tallest", look out. There is a pattern of building tallest buildings followed my economic downturns.

  5. Actually I used to dream about living in a skyscraper. I ended up living in a townhouse on a street lined with trees, which I'm quite happy with. Jenga Tower, quite the intriguing name! All the more intriguing, since it's associated with engineering disasters. Sounds like someone has been plotting! :)
