This morning I received email
from a friend in Israel.
I’ve mentioned her before, this bright, warm spirit hoping for a Steinbeck
Foundation fellowship. And I dubbed her fittingly as a mensch, a Yiddish term labeling a person as one of integrity and
honor.
She replied in the most
delightful way, saying it felt like being knighted. In addition, Grace wrote, “I
dub you, Darla of the Writingtales a mensch of the first order.”
