A Busy Morning Brings Relief

Since the day they moved in at the end of 2020 I've noticed the kittens suffering diarrhea. It has never slowed them down, as validated with the video I posted yesterday (lol) and a fecal float test at the veterinary clinic showed no evidence of parasites.

Yet the suggestion of stress never made sense as Jezebel can tell you Terra and Polly took over our home early on. That left us with the frustrating search for the right kitten food in the event of sensitivity. Then I heard Terra use the litter box last Wednesday the 17th and found a stinky liquid goo that beat them all. I immediately went online and requested an appointment.

Well, today I noticed what looked like a group of skinny, off-white sesame seeds. Alarm bells rang and an online search led me to suspect tapeworms. I collected them on a Post-It note, called the clinic, grabbed the requested stool sample, and off I went. And thank heaven, because the clinic employee saw no evidence of my online request despite the automatic confirmation I received.

Would you expect parasites when they
tussle and play like little maniacs?

I had to wait a while but didn't mind, appreciating the same day service. This time the veterinarian had no doubt and recommended medication. However, I couldn't verify they retained the same weight as at their prior check-up. So I drove back home, grabbed the kittens in a carrier, and returned. Funny enough, their weights were almost the exact same, though Polly lost a tiny amount. Oh, well. I have peace of mind and they each got an appropriate dose of praziquantel.

Do you experience glitches with online scheduling? This reminded me of the time we were sent to a collections agency for an electronic bill we never saw. And on that note, do you remember to regularly check your email spam folder?

  1. HI I'm Dori, and I'm new to yoor blog. At my house My Mom has absolutely no patience, so she calls the veterinarian with her demands (requests) and then calls back again if she doesn't hear back within an hour or so. We moved to Flory-Da in July and frankly the new vet needs a front desk makeover. They just don't return phone calls, even when medicine for bad UTI's is necessary. But otherwise the doctor is very nice, so Mom is gritting her tooths and making extra calls. So glad yoo found out what is making your fur babies sick. Purrs

  2. Online scheduling doesn't always work, we've experienced that at the Vet Emergency Clinic of all places (online checkin). I'm so happy you got them taken care of and I hope the problem clears up really soon.

    1. Thank you. It seems we pet people need to advocate for their healthcare *and* ours.

  7. That has got to be a shock to discover those parasites! When you are doing your part and then some... and to find the way to make the kittens well finally seeing there is the reasoner their problem right there in the litterbox if only you're lucky enough to see them!

    1. The only real down side is that I found those segments atop my bed. Ugh... What can you do? :)

  8. I'm glad you figured it out an they're getting treated. Neither of our vets do online scheduling, which I'm very glad about. I'd much rather talk to a person whenever there's something going on with the fur kids.

  11. I do not book apts online. I always call, some ways of doing things I just can't change. Hoping the meds are helpng the babes. When Misty River was living at brothers house she had an issue with runny stools. Kim took her to the vet, it had to do with Mark and Kim making the formula to liquidy. Poor babes, hoping their bottoms feel better. Misty's was raw and at the same time we were having to wipe her cause we were still doing the mommy thing trying to teach her to go to the bathroom. I am glad Misty has had no issues since.

  12. I thought I had left a comment...I have been so bad with the publishing...must be old-timers disease...since I retired, its like my brain has checked out!
Anyway, Great thinking on your part! And yes, online scheduling is only as good as the person who sets it up and settings can be missed. (there was a scheduling function in the software we wrote, I am now glad I am retired). Glad that you knew what to look for! You ROCK! Thanks for visiting us and have a happy day!
