The Beatles are on my personal list, as well. Georgia on My Mind sounded like Jo Jo on My Mind, as if Jo Jo was an old flame in the song “Back in the U.S.S.R.” A crisp digital version on my iPod Touch corrected this misconception. The same technology changed my perception of many Meatloaf tunes.
Are you familiar with seventies era ‘rabbit ears’ TV antennae? The youngest child was charged with both adjusting the wires and switching channels, something my husband and I both did. Now we teasingly call ourselves the original remote controls. Isn’t it amazing how many experiences we share despite an eight year age gap?

I'm 74 years old. I remember the rabbit ears. I was the one that changed the channels in my youth. I also remember turning on the television five minutes before the show started so the television would warm up all the tubes. Good times.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and week. Hugs. ♥
I don't recall needing to let the tubes warm. I'll ask my husband when he wakes from his nap. LOL Hugs and blessings, my dear.
DeleteI have always thought it was- I guess it rains down in Africa too. :) I love Meatloaf, saw them once in college when they played at a nearby college. I am youngest and don't recall having to deal with rabbit ears. :) XO
ReplyDeleteYou saw Meatloaf live? Wow! That's super cool. You've missed out on nothing regarding rabbit ears. It was tedious standing there being told to move this way and that. LOL Hugs, my dear.
DeleteI thought it was 'I guess it rains down in Africa', too. I'll just add the to my long list of mondegreens.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to not be alone. lol And now I must research the term mondegreens. It's always a pleasure learning something new, so thank you for sharing. Best wishes!
DeleteI always thought it was guess it rains too. I still have some rabbit ears around here somewhere LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny. :)
DeleteI don't have one of those new fangled screens that list titles in my car. Of course, my car is a 1993 model. I pretty much can't discern song lyrics. I made my peace with that a long time ago. Let me find the lyric sheet, and that's what I go by.
ReplyDeleteLOL
DeleteI don't know this song. But there are quite few which are popular here, and I used to mishear some words when I was young. Now, in most songs, the music is louder than the voice of the singer. As a result of which mondegreen is quite common!
ReplyDeleteNo, TVs here never had the 'rabbit ears’ TV antennae. In olden days, we had one which resembled a long pole on one of which there was a coil-like structure. And this was mounted on top of the house. One had to turn the antenna to different directions to get different TV stations. Good old days!
That's fascinating technology. :) Be well!
DeleteThe lyrics bad moon on the rise by Creedance was oft mistook for There's a bathroom on the right. So much so that the band sang it that way for laughs now and then at concerts.
ReplyDeleteJimi Hendrix reacted the same way upon learning 'Kiss the sky' was misinterpreted as 'Kiss this guy'. He sang it while ogling a bandmate. I love that. Best wishes!
Deletedon’t think there’s an artist ( band ) out there who hasn’t had
ReplyDeletea misinterpreted song…even if they’re a fave and you’ve heard the song 1000 times, ( which, by the way I have, when it comes to Sad but True…😸‼️ think I’ll listen to it again and make it 1001 💚Dylan, bless him, was always a bit hard for me to understand
lol
