Seriously Silly & Silly Seriousness
When I shared finding a huge bargain on cut flowers, a kind comment from Andrew reminded me my lack of clarity. Each bunch consisted of a single coloration, so my tricolor bouquet would have cost $24 (USD) while I paid one eighth (!) that price. And in addition, Jungle Jim’s market had a sale on white button mushrooms. One of the tasty fungi made me giggle before I sliced, diced, and fried them up.
Putting the butt in button... ~shakes head~ Sorry
Did you know that the common white mushroom I photographed is an immature version of the more expensive crimini and portabello varieties? By the way, dear Mariette, please correct me if I’m wrong. If you are a mushroom culinary aficionado, do you prefer milder or more earthy flavors?
Dearest Darla, That is a funny butt—button mushroom indeed! It is not true that the white button mushroom is an immature version of the more expensive Cremini and Portobello. The pricing is just 'marketing'. This is a citation from my post from 2013: Costco often sells brown or cremini mushrooms. But it really doesn't matter; they are all the same AGARICUS BISPORUS! Like people from Asia, Middle East, South America or Africa are looking different from Europeans. But we are ALL the very same HUMAN BEINGS and we all have red blood in our veins. So that aside, and regardless those fancy names like Baby Bella; look for the STEMS. https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2013/04/what-you-should-look-for-when-buying.html Above is the link to that post and really, all you must look for buying quality mushrooms (regardless of color!) is the diameter of its stem. Hugs, Mariette
I anticipated your wise commentary with much certainty you'd be of assistance. :D I did discover the Latin name and look forward to reading your assessment. Also, I wish everyone would look at other humans as the same despite cosmetic and cultural differences. ~shakes head~ Be well, my dear.
Yep, same here, Kirk. Dad says he'd slice, dice and fry them and put them on just about anything (mushrooms, not butts). Quite the cheeky fungus foto, Darla.
Those are things I do not eat, do not grow....I might had photographed a time or two but that was it. lol....you know by now I am picky. I actually think its a sensory thing, the feel of them.
Dearest Darla, My previous comment from around 3:00 AM is gone... It is not true that the white button mushroom is an immature version of the more expensive Cremini and Portobello varieties. There is a lot of nonsense out on the Internet but our university textbook about mushroom growing is telling the scientific and true version. And the more expensive Cremini and Portobello is just a marketing factor! Costco often sells brown or cremini mushrooms. If you love to eat mushrooms buy the ones that are firm, closed and with a broad stem as that is the only quality criteria. Hugs, Mariette + Kitties
I apologize, my dear, as I failed to check for comments and approve them. Please be patient with my lazy self before feeling the need to retype you awesome commentary. Hugs to you and yours.

Yeah! Is it any wonder they weren't being sold at those prices? And they still bring me joy even as the more daisy-like flowers are fading. Hugs, my dear.
Yes, it favors a BUTT but I thought at first it was a tooth. lol...I love fresh cut flowers and really have enjoyed the ones I got from my sils mom. Hope to have a crap load in the yard to cut next yr. BOrn in 69, you are a baby
Poor mushroom is the butt of your joke. :) I prefer milder ones. XO
