Seriously, this is a discount?

My husband and I so fortunate that retirement gives us plenty of time to shop for bargains. How working parents feed their families is both a mystery and growing concern. I doubt many folks have time to check the clearance shelves or even know their location tucked past aisles of freezers just across from the small hardware selection. When I looked up my jaw dropped. It’s no wonder bottles like this remain on the shelves.

For my unsophisticated palete, a brand priced just over one tenth of this tastes just fine.
Can you imagine what the original retail price must have been? Is there any special occasion for which you’d consider such an extravagant purchase?

  1. I wouldn't pay that much for wine but I have for spirits as a gift.

    1. That's very generous. :D We've done that once or twice, as well. The best part is that good friends will share a toast of it with you.

      Be well,

  3. I have paid for Rombauer Chardonnay and that's about 42.00 per bottle. It has to be really special though. Mostly we have our Cook's champagne and it's really cheap.

Have a fabulous weekend, Darla. Big hug. ♥

    1. For you, I imagine the occasion being your wedding anniversary. :D Cook's is good, as is Andre, which is what I bought for our wedding.

  7. OMG! Yeah I don't know how anyone keeps fed with the prices these days. Same with me, glad I have time to shop for bargains. And I use senior discount days at Wheeler Dealer, every Tuesday. Old age may as well be useful for something. Surviving extreme food costs is a good use.

  8. None whatsoever, says my dad. He and mom are happy with their much-less-pricey choices when they do purchase wine. As for the discount shopping- they miss (among other stuff) the several discount grocery stores in the Asheville area, especially since it seems prices around here are even worse than where we used to live. Dad says he'd easily move back just for those discount stores alone!

    1. I'm not surprised you see higher prices at your new location. :( I want to live in Asheville to be closer to the coast. lol Best wishes, Darla Sands

  9. Would I pay that much for alcohol? Considering I don't imbibe? Yeah, no. I pass the booze aisles in the store and just walk on by. It makes life easier not drinking at all.

    1. You definitely save money, especially compared to those who imbibe out at the bars.
