From ‘Preppie’ to ‘Prepper’

Way back in the early nineties, before office employees dreamed of working from home, I dressed like an absolute yuppie. Preppy better fits this post but it’s a bit of a joke. My cousin’s hand-me-downs were nothing popular students wore in the 1980’s. ~sigh~ Anyway, times sure have changed.

Because of inflation and possible food shortages beyond ongoing supply chain issues, fashion is the least of my concerns. I have added and/or changed numerous habits.

Dried coffee grounds & tea leaves will
benefit our vegetable garden.

An unused ice bucket holds what
I have thus far reaped...

Preserving tough meat in the
form of jerky is not new
but sure is tasty...

I will break this down into smaller
packages and vacuum seal each
with a moisture absorber.

Below is a tip unrelated to these uncertain times. I prefer my improvisation over the cheap plastic fruit juicing tools our grocer sells.

Are you stocking up on anything? And on a lighter note, do you miss fashions from any particular era?

  1. We are experiencing fresh food inflation big time. $12 for a kilo of red capsicum. Everything is going up, including petrol. Too late for us now to stock up and avoid price rises. They have happened already.

  2. I recall attending a party, when I was incredibly thin.
I wore a white blouse, pink-and-white pants, and brand-new white tennis shoes.
Pretty sure I had a white sweater looped around my shoulders too.
Fashion is subjective; most of my clothes are 'recycled' ad I shop resale, and I buy the colors and fit that suit me.
Heaven forbid that they make me come back into the office full-time, unless sweatshirts with cats on them are okay.

  3. We've been preppers for years. We have enough food and water for a very long time.

I dress for comfortable right now. I do get a kick out of the young ones that think their clothes are the first time around when it's been done before. I just smile.

Have a fabulous day and weekend, Darla. Big hug and be well. ♥

  6. Looks like you are prepared. We always try to have a lot of litter and cat food on hand= and chocolate and coffee. I wouldn't mind if velour jogging suits came back in style- they were comfy. :) XO

  7. Blue Levis, solid color tee shirts, plaid flannel shirts, etc.
I have not changed my style of clothes in fifty years.
However, since my Dad passed away last year, I now have some of his button up, short sleeve shirts, for when the weather warms up for keeps. For work purposes, I may even tuck the tails in.
Just not on Fridays. We observe Casual Friday here in Tennessee.

  8. I try to keep overstocked on cat food but its a little hard to get now. As for human food, peanut butter powder is easy to keep.

  9. I hate to stock up much with the prices so high unless there is going to be yet another shortage. Prices are horrific and unless the shortages are worser than thay already are, I'll just try to keep several weeks wirth on hand.
I like the boot cut pants...jeans as well as the dressier pants. Not real exaggerated in flare..just the boot cut as was on jeans in the 80's...

  10. The freezer is stocked but the prob with that is, its just the one on the fridge. I don't have an extra one. Had I known I was going to be moving into my moms house, I would have kept the upright freezer she had downstairs. I gave it to my niece since they have gardens and beef. I did not have room for it at my other place.....oh well. Stocking up on other stuff also. Bout over all this crap. Be sure and let those grounds dry all the way before putting them in a container with a lid, they will mold. I tried a compost pile when I first moved here, in a large rubber maid container, yep, that had to go. Such a mess, and draws lots of flies. So I have also limited mine to coffee grounds, tea grounds and peels from fruits. Last yr I had a plant I brought from the other place grow like MAD. It finally hit me why.....when I went to do away with the compost, I dumped it in my flowerbed and mixed it up. My bed loved that....have fun.
