My husband went to a routine doctor appointment and stopped at Burger King on the way home. Amusedly lamenting over my spoiling his lasts two surprises, this afternoon he got me.
He met me wearing a paper Burger King crown. I burst out laughing. Why the clerk gave it to him, I don’t know. And I neither know nor care why the chain is affiliated with Ohio State University’s football team, the Buckeyes.
I did enjoy the taste of my flame broiled whopper jr., though. If he’d called ahead to ask if I wanted one the answer probably would have been no as I’d eaten a while earlier. But by golly, I cut the burger in half and still ate the whole thing in one sitting.
Something similar happened after I saw that another fast food chain, Arby’s, brought back their chicken pecan salad sandwich for a limited time. The slices of hearty whole grain bread are rather wide and packed with equally yummy filling. But about twenty minutes after storing half in the refrigerator I went back and devoured the rest.
It’s rare that I crave any fast food, let alone rave about it. But the fresh crunchy flavors of apple, pecans, and celery perfectly balance the abundant juicy chicken chunks while a light, simple mayonnaise dressing keeps the whole thing (mostly) together. Trust me when I say that any bits that fell out onto my plate didn’t go to waste.
Is it wrong to wax poetic about fast food? Do you agree that limited releases are a gimmick, however tasty?

That is quite the Royal story, love the Crown! It's good to have a treat when they bring back something special!
ReplyDeleteHi Darla, I am so glad 😊 your husband made you laugh.
ReplyDeleteWe have Burger King 🤴 here in Montreal. I haven't eaten therenin quite a long time. What you had does sound tasty 😋
We do not have Arby's here, though.
Thank you so much for sharing and I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead. 😊
I had lunch at a bakery with my neighbour HH yesterday and I ordered a curried egg sandwich, half to eat there and half wrapped to take away. I ate the half on the plate and HH had not finished her lunch, so a few minutes later I ate the wrapped half too. I must have been hungry.
ReplyDeleteI love a whopper. Better than any of the others. But I have gotten horrible bronchitis within a week of the last three visit waaaaaay back. So I won't go any more to my home town one. I don't mind anywhere else. Love that style of chicken salad. I look like a starving person when I ever get some of that chicken salad. .
ReplyDeleteWe rarely have fast food. I don't think I have a favorite of any fast food. Used to eat it in my younger years. If you love something it's good to have it now and then.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and rest of the week, my friend. Hugs. ♥
At my high school, seniors got to wear the Burger King crowns. I can't remember when, mostly assemblies, if memory serves. My father worked for them for a time. I was pretty young. I doubt that location is still even there. Almost 50 years ago now. Wow.
ReplyDeleteThat salad sandwich sounds so delicious!
ReplyDeleteThe clerk probably saw that he was a child at heart.
ReplyDeleteI love Burger King and luckily the closest is a 30 minute ride. When we were cleaning out my hubby's sister's house, having Whopper Jr.s and fries was the highlight of the day. :) XO
ReplyDeleteThat is something that would never happen here, Darla. If dad ever came home with fast food, he wouldn't be alive right now to help me write this post. He told me a story about how, years ago on his day off every week he'd go to Wendy's and order a Triple with everything, a large order of fries and a large Coke. Then go back home and take a nap.
