Z is for ZZ Top

I honestly thought there would be at least two or three bands on my iPod that started with Z. I was wrong. And, sorry guys, you are talented but I don’t even have a full ZZ Top album over which to opine. I purchased “I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide” through, of all things, a Harley-Davidson road song compilation. A cool thing I learned is how they got their name. According to singer-guitarist Billy Gibbons, they wanted to pay tribute to the great blues guitarist BB King and planned to use the name ZZ King until fear of confusion instigated the change.

Ultimately I am blessed that every letter does have representation. Thanks for playing along. I hope you enjoyed my humble take on the A-Z Blog Challenge.

As for my final mock band name, I decided to end with Norwegian symphonic black metal. And so I give you Zest for Death. I’m hearing Dimmur Borgir in my head as I type it. You can view the lead singer's image at bottom.

* Notice: I anticipate restricted Internet access for several days at least as the challenge comes toward a close. So please excuse me if I do not reply to your comment anytime soon. My online activity is currently restricted to reading and commenting on others’ blogs. Thank you for expressing interest in my frivolous entries!

  1. Ah, ZZ Top. They were huge when I was a teen. They have some good tunes.

  2. ZZ Top - now there's a blast from the past! I'm not really into heavy metal so I'm not sure I'd like your Zest For Death! My new favourite, though, song is by Disturbed, brilliant cover version of The Sound of Silence. Here's a link (which may or may not work - I'm not very good at HTML!) if you want to see it.

    1. How awesome, my dear, that you like this cover by Disturbed. These guys include one great cover version on every album. And this one gives me chills. Thank you for sharing the link (which is perfect, by the way). Good job! And you led me to see the video for "The Light". I'm eternally grateful because I don't check out videos too often. Be well!

  3. A Ha!! I know the band ZZ Top and that makes me feel great. I even had some of their music but it disappeared. I didn't know that they were fans of B.B. King. Fantastic.
Thank you for presenting me with music that I had never paid any attention to. You have broadened my music world.
I look forward to reading your blog in the future. I might not read every blog post but I will stay in touch if only on one post per week.
You have done an outstanding job, and I am proud to have walked with you through the A to Z Blog Challenge.
    All the best.

  4. I always envied their beards. I didn't think my employer would have approved so I never grew one of my own! But now....mmm!

Thanks for a very entertaining and informative series. I didn't realise how much I didn't know.

  5. I saw ZZTop at the Astrodome in 1981 when they opened for the Rolling Stones. What a night that was. Thanks for playing. I enjoyed it so much.

  7. Yes! ZZ Top! I love the song, 'Sharp Dressed Man'! (I can't deny I'm one of the ones that goes crazy for such a gent. :)) Your original band looks quite interesting, as many of your original bands have. :)

My deep of breath of relief at finishing this task isn't unaccompanied by a sigh of regret. (wistful smile) It's been a real pleasure to getting to know you during this challenge, along with your blogs!

  9. ZZ Top reminds me of MTV in its early days when there were more videos. Sharp Dressed Man was a good one.

    1. Oh, I agree about that video. Do you remember Liquid Television? I adored Crazy Daisy Ed. ~snicker~ That character brought out the little boy in this lass, for sure. And my partner recently told me that MTV is bringing back more videos. How cool would that be? Let's hope for the best, my dear. Take care.

  11. I always confuse ZZ top with a Hungarian female choir who were featured in many pop and even rick songs strangely enough... they had a similar name but I can't recall it any more lol 🙈

    1. Ooh. I've not heard of that site. Sounds fun! I look forward to visiting you. As a bonus, I learned a fun thing a few months ago. To come up with your "cowboy" name, take the make of your first car and add the last name of your first love. That makes me Regal Blinco, which I thought was pretty cool. Best wishes!
