I need to start numbering these lessoned learned episodes. ~shakes head~ Anyway, back in 2019 our lovely Chevrolet Volt got scrapped due to a collision. If we’d known better, we’d have collected the cargo net since our gorgeous 2017 Volt (electric hybrid version 2.0) lacked this surprisingly expensive little luxury.
Hence when our last microwave oven died I knew enough to retain its glass turntable. It’s a nice item to switch out when our latest and greatest unit needs cleaning, which leads to another lesson.
I need to stop running the microwave oven without donning eyeglasses. ~sigh~ Jezebel wanted her morning arctic char, stomping on me with her shaky geriatric little kitty feet to the point I felt bad and scurried out to the kitchen (hence, no eyeglasses).
She doesn’t much care if her refrigerated food is warmed, yet I decided to do so. I still don’t know how it happened, but my intended four second runtime went on far past that. Opening the door I found an explosive stinky mess. I should have used our domed splatter guard. ~sigh~ On the bright side, our scrubbed microwave oven looks brand new.
Are you a big user of a microwave oven? Do you own any sort of splatter guard for it?

Our microwave is so old, it probably is baking us on the outside as much as the stuff put on the inside!
ReplyDeleteMy father-in-law bought it off the back of a truck, he said...and that was 40 odd years ago.
Now you're scaring me. Take care, my dear!

ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this? ~shakes head~ I'm glad you have a workable splatter guard.
DeleteThat had to be a terrific smell first thing in the morning! We have a spatter guard around here somewhere.
ReplyDeleteYes. It was icky. I hope you find your splatter guard. :)
DeleteI usually cover stuff with plastic wrap. Sometimes I set the timer and accidentally hit something that adds a minute to it which is not good.
ReplyDelete~hugs~
DeleteYes, I own splatter guards. And, of course, I forget to use them at the worst times. Lately I've been pretty good, but there were times when I should have known better.
ReplyDeleteYour eyesight must be pretty good if you could go and do something after forgetting your glasses. Alas, I am so blind without that I'd be useless. (My vision without is something like 20/800. The world is very fuzzy.)
I'm sorry your vision is so bad. Yikes. Be safe!
DeleteHAHA....sounds like me and something I would do. Well, I speak from experience, I HAVE done it. Micro use, not for about six months now. I basically just used mine for heating things up, but it kicked the bucket. I decided that I was ok without it right now. However, I do have one in the basement, larger than what I had. It comes with the rack thing to hang above the stove but I am not bringing it up till I get the kitchen redone. Actually, I would need someone to bring it up for me. Brand new, still in the box. It was one my brother got to install in his new kitchen about six years ago, but decided to do no cabinets for hanging above the stove. As always, it was stored in mom's basement, so it becomes mine......I will pay him something for it. lol
ReplyDeleteI feel quite certain your brother will refuse payment. Blessings, my dear.
DeleteThat is one beautifully spotless oven now! I don't have a splatter guard and every now and then, things go splat all over.
ReplyDeleteThanks. :D You may want to check out the following link. Be well!

I sure do have a splatter guard. It has saved the day so well so any times. It failed me several, surprisingly. Splatters went through the vents onto the oven's interior. That's rare but it happens. I too dislike giving Katie icy cold wet food. She barely eats any, so warm it, already Mom. For supper, I take it out of the fridge an hour ahead of time to try to get it to room temperature. Don't have to use the microwave then. I too have had her stuff in for 6 seconds...WAY too much. If she's hungry, I have to get another can and open it. I also warm her elevated dish if taken from the cabinet in winter. Thing is icy cold. So, I gave it 8 seconds in the microwave to warm her dish. Gosh, I think I wrote a blog here!
DeleteYou are awesome, make no mistake. :D
DeleteGREAT idea to save the class from a deceased microwave for cleaning purposes when the other gets splattered.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Be well, my dear.
