Positive Sparks - Monday March 5

To quote Annie of McGuffy’sReader, the bright spirited blog where she created Sparks Mondays, “I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!”

For this week I decided to share something by the amazing Henry David Thoreau. To my surprise, some were obsolete. But come on, he lived a long time ago, so it's understandable he was wrong about mankind cluttering the skies. Oh, well. This one from Brainy Quotes struck me as particularly poignant. Happy Monday!

Alas, I Cannot Take Credit for this Photo

Unlike my sorry self, have you ever read “Walden” by Mr. Thoreau?

  1. I read it ages ago in school, but don't remember much of it. That's a great quote.

  4. Wonderful Spark for the day, Darla! Absolutely true, we should never be so old or so set in our ways that we cling to our beliefs with rigidity, never stopping to re-examine them and see if they still hold true. Often we find that things we've come to believe about others and life are untrue. That's an opportunity for us to open our minds and let the light shine in! :-)

  5. Thanks for sharing this spark Darla, such a important sentiment and I've been posting similar quotes on my facebook page over the last week to counteract some of the prejudice out there in the world.
    Have a really lovely week.

  6. Great spark. I have read Walden Pond and I have been there too. My brother-in-law is buried in the same cemetery as Thoreau too. ( I know that is an odd fact).

  7. I have not. I come across it sometimes when an English class is reading bits of it, but then I only get the bits.

  8. Darla,

Good quote. Sometimes we have prejudices tendencies and don't even know it. but it's never too late to push those feelings aside. The world would be a better place if we all did just that. Thanks for popping in on me. ;) Have a good week!

  11. I did read Walden a long time ago. I'm not sure what quote he made about the skies getting cluttered but we sure have cluttered up space I hear, with lots of space junk, half dead satellites, etc. We could use the clean up crew out there.

    1. Neat! I should read his words. As for our Earth, I heard it's the only planet known to have artificial rings. Crazy, huh? Be well!

  12. Ahh, Grasshopper. Yes, excellent. Do read Thoreau. He is one of the many greats. Wisdom does not become obsolete. We just need to pay attention to what speaks to us. If it doesn't, it was not meant for you. But, it may fit into someone else's life at that moment, perhaps not even speaking of what you think you hear. It is all good. And, when your work is ready...I am here to read it, too. Because you are also great.
