Unintended Upgrades

I can hardly believe it's been so long since I posted anything. And I sure got behind reading others' blogs. ~shakes head~ Time is just flying by these days.

And on that note we've lived in this house since 1994 (!) and have replaced a number of things both inside and out, some multiple times like the water heaters that always flood our basement. LOL In an odd chain of events following replacement of our kitchen faucet we have seen multiple small (thank heaven) kitchen appliances suddenly need replaced.

I believe this trend started when the nonstick coating on my sandwich press start to peel. Then our steamer quit working shortly before I noticed rust behind the inner coating of our microwave oven. Yikes.

I found a Toshiba unit recommended by two different sources and we've been very happy with its greater power and neat features. Meamwhile my husband found a multi use six quart GoWISE USA 12-in-one electric pressure cooker. I had no idea it's comparable to the Instant Pot friends kept touting. We've been happy with everything we've used it for: soft boiled eggs (super easy to peel), perfect jasmine rice, and even banana bread (cooked in a bowl, it looked funny while tasting great). I'm looking forward to trying a pear jam recipe.

My husband cooks an egg
(or two or three)
in this daily!

Soon to be delivered is an air fryer/toaster oven. It seems we're finally catching up with the times. ~grin~ I'm so thankful my guy is good at finding reasonable deals.

Do you have many kitchen gadgets? What do you think is, or would be, most useful in your home?

  1. We don't have crock pots or pressure cookers here. Hubby uses an All Clad pot to cook the most tender of all meats and it's much better than the crock pot. So gadgets kind of went out the window here.

Have a fabulous day and week, Darla. Big hug. ♥

  2. Our favorite kitchen toy is the Ninja Foodie Grill, which is also an air fryer. We use it multiple times each week.

  3. Purchased an old-fashioned pressure cooker for The Hubby; one that you sit on the stove. He cooks garbanzo beans, then makes his version of hummus, and I smear that on EVERYTHING! Yum...

  4. Glad you got some new appliances. We have an air fryer, but rarely use it. The instant pot sounds good though.

    1. I always figured your apartment living arrangement would make appliance space tricky and respect that. :) I'm so happy your ceiling finally got fixed!

  6. When I moved back to Midway, I discovered my husband had purchased a George Foreman Grill...I LOVE the thing! At least once a week this appliance is used, and when one of the elements quit working, I went and bought a new one.

  7. Welcome back to the blogging world!!! Missed you. I get your comments but I miss reading your blogs. Isn't it funny how when one thing goes they all seem to give issues. My microwave is prob the most used. I was given a air fryer by a friend and it is cool....but it was BIG. I will be looking into getting a smaller one. I used the pressure cooker a lot when I first out it but I have not used it in awhile....why, I find I can cook about as fast as it can. By the time it builds up the steam and then cooks. I was doing to furs chicken in it before I lost Dakota and Chey had to stop eating human food but they did not care for it. So I started back boiling the chicken. I got a couple of pieces for Christmas, making a cake and stuff but have not tried it. Think I might need to pull it out and try. My issue, I don't have the room in this small kitchen to store all that stuff. I totally love my slow cooker though. Not sure of the age of the fridge or stove but I figure one of them will go first in this house. Need to go and pull moms files and see how old they are. Yep....prob need to do that. As for the eggs, I have a egg cooker. It like boils them. Six at a time and it only takes six mins. I love that. Matter of fact I made some egg salad the other day. Happy BLOGGING lady.

    2. I still miss him too....poor Chey gets called Dakota all the time! I think I catch myself but now I wonder if there are times I don't catch it. I love egg salad, nothing fancy. Eggs, dill pickles, green olives, salt, pepper, mayo and a touch of mustard. YUM....

  8. I have a crock pot and a very small microwave that needs replaced for rust too. I want to try an air fryer. Let me know how yours works!

  9. We don't have lots of gadgets here, other than the basics. We like to keep things simple, basic and old school, though I have to say- if we had a grill we'd probably cook everything we possibly could on it every day.

    1. Simple is often better. After all, in the words of Tyler Durden, "the things you own (can) end up owning you." Heh...

  10. Well, here mom and dad prefer good old pots and pans. They've been considering purchasing a gas grill, but they talked about it this morning and realized that they eat so little meat/fish/chicken they likely wouldn't use it much but for veggie skewers, corn on the cob, maybe some potatoes, but otherwise it wouldn't get much regular use. Sure, when they have company it would be busy, but that's not likely to happen too often.

    1. I admire their reduced meat diet. ~nods~ Sad to say, I am not likely to ever go that route.

  11. I too have had moments when I couldn't believe I hadn't blogged for quite some time. When we are occupied with something we don't realise how fast time flies by.
No, not many kitchen gadgets at our home, other than the microwave, the grinder and the toaster.
