Thank you, Strayer, for inspiring me to attempt fixing my aquarium pump. And Pam, you made me giggle over the image of your one year old grandson dropping toys in your fish tank. I never tire of both your creative and altruistic tales, ladies.
I must say that a twenty-nine gallon aquarium is considered small to serious hobbyists. Larger ones are actually easier to maintain. I know that seems counterintuitive but so many tropical creatures grow too large for me to keep. The greater freshwater volume is also more forgiving of quality. Oh, well. To live is to learn. Right?
I miss keeping these frogs, which didn't fare well. This was from 2013 |
Sharing an appreciation of running water with lovely folks like Pradeep Nair, Liz A., plus the families at Cleo’s house, Brian’s Home, and
Cats-astrophic Events made me smile. It’s a good reminder during these divisive times just how many joys we humans have in common.
What made you smile today? And if nothing did, would it help to share your day’s disappointments?
Feel free to vent. And best wishes to all, my dears.

I always though watching the little fish swim was very calming, the cats not so much!

DeleteToday, my office workload was amazingly light, and I was able to spend some extra minutes with Sweetie, Manny and CB, and The PO'M. Working from home is delicious, when I can pet the cats, sit on the deck and watch the trees, and no commute.
ReplyDeleteAmen!
DeleteWhat a lovely post. We interact with each other all week long and often we are left with smiles and the warmth of friendship. It's been ever so important this past year. Bless you for being a place I love to visit.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day, Darla. Big hug. ♥
~hugs~
DeleteThanks a lot, Darla, for those kind words :-)
ReplyDeleteThis blogosphere of well-wishers is an energizer of sorts... made up of a diverse group of people from different parts of the globe ... who collectively bring to the table a wide spectrum of perspectives of everyday lives.
Thank you for reading my posts regularly and jotting down your lovely comments. :-)
Today morning I had been to the nearby department store. I was waiting for my turn at the cash counter. On seeing me, one of the store managers opened the adjacent cash counter so that I need not have to wait. That was very kind of him, and truly made me smile .. :-)
You brought a tear to my eyes. I guess I get weepy over simple kindness these days. Be well!
DeleteI hate when I am so stupid I lose a comment before I publish....so hear I go again. You are welcome, I totally love being able to help others smile, giggle or laugh out loud. I usually shoot for the laugh out loud part! As for the tanks, I only went for a five gallon the couple of times I had one. More was more then I could handle while raising kids, then even harder with a grand around. The toys were not so bad picking them out but it became a big prob when it was a stuffed animal. HAHA....I loved my tanks. I loved to turn the lights off in the living room, turn the light on the tank on and tv on and watch the fish after everyone was in bed. It was calming. I always made sure I had neon tetras, they were cool to watch. But head light, tail lights are really fun to watch. My fave fish though was my plecostomus. That fish was cool. I had a albino looking catfish for cleaning one tank and it would come to the top for me to pet. Fish are neat. But I love my CATS.
ReplyDeleteDogs, cats, mice, snakes, fish... I've enjoyed them all. I only got cats after Luna insisted on moving in, as I'm sure I've shared more than once. Heh... I always thank her for getting me on the right asthma and allergy meds. But don't feel stupid. ~shakes finger~ You are anything but dumb. I hope Lilly Bit, Misty River, and Chey are taking good care of you. Be well!
DeleteAw....thanks. Lots better today after a week of major headaches and pain. Chiro apt yesterday and the rain moved out so I am better! Wanted to comment on your comment on the blog...It was a joy ride and I incorporated two stops...or was it the other way around!! Who cares, I need a ride around with the camera in hand and with that I was able to visit a friend and stop at the farm to visit the animals, so it was worth it. It had been a long time since I did that and I realized I needed it really bad.

DeleteI can see how a larger tank could be easier to maintain. It's whatever gives you joy, right?
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteI think any size aquarium is too hard to maintain. I like the little frogs though, they would be fun to have.
ReplyDeleteMy frogs were fun. So were fiddler crabs. Sad to say, neither lives long in the home aquarium. ~sigh~ Be well, my dear!
DeleteAt work (pawn shop/antique shop) I've been arranging a new room to be the library. I'm pretty pleased with how it's looking.
ReplyDeleteCool!
DeleteOh Darla, this post's opening paragraph made dad stop and think about how rush-rush, no-time-for-anything, too-much-to-do-and-not-enough-hours-in-the-day things have gotten. He says he doesn't take as much time to be thankful for the above-mentioned virtual friendships as he'd like to. I have a feeling that if he ever manages to make it to retirement he'll have all the time he needs for his/our blogging friends. Now for your last question- would you believe that I, Cleo, made him smile today already, even though he was up at stupid o'clock? Yep, me and my demanding presence in their bed at an ungodly hour actually made him smile already. My work here is done for this morning. Have yourself an awesome weekend, my friend.
ReplyDeleteYou're a treasure, Cleo. ~hugs~ Best wishes to you and your humans.
DeleteI'm reading this post and looking at my aquarium...yes, I needed to clean the filters today...
ReplyDeleteI need to clean the glass, myself. lol Take care!
DeleteI have Aquariums I 'inherited' when the Grandson I Raised grew up, moved out and willed them to his little Sister, who had no interest really in adopting a slew of Tropical Fish. I was of coarse glad he came back a Year after moving out and at least was then able to take his Reptile with him, that I'd been Guardian over... the Chameleon died on my Watch and the Bearded Dragon grew to over 2 foot long and kinda intimidated me, tho' he had a sweet personality and got attached to me, a big Lizard having a Bad Day always was a concern of mine. *Smiles* The Fish had to move when we moved, I downsized both Tanks considerably, but you're right, the larger one is easier to Maintain. His original 7 fish are now many... apparently they are a frisky Community and have thrived and multiplied.
ReplyDeleteI like watching the fish swim all over and forage around.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pleasant view. :)
DeleteMissing your post....we need something! lol....I read that you can put lime in your soil to help with the acid. Might want to try that. Hydrangea's are my most fave flowers.....so funny cause mine at the old house never bloomed this early, these I planted already have blooms starting to come develop.
ReplyDeleteI guess age can be a grace. :)
DeleteDespite a lifelong involvement with wildlife It is perhaps a little ironic that I have never had the urge to have pets in my home. Add to that the fact that I travelled quite a bit before retirement and have always (pre COVID) travelled personally too, and my home has remained animal free. Perhaps if I relent, a fish tank would be the ideal thing and I will remember your advice about a big tank!
ReplyDeleteRegular travel can make having pets difficult. ~nods~ Best wishes! And I hope you can enjoy travel again soon.
