Behind the Times

I have a tendency to hang onto technology way past the point others move on. Take my Kindle Fire, for instance. It still serves me well as an e-reader, web browser, and gaming device. And since I don’t want the ever-connectedness others endure with their smart phones, that Kindle is not going away anytime soon.

However, it almost did. Out and about the other day I left my Kindle behind at a bar. Going right back to the place after a quick confirming phone call, I decided to get it right away instead of waiting until the next day.

The bartender who waited on my partner and me fetched my device from the manager’s office. She had to tease upon handing it over.

“We all wondered how anyone could lose something so big.”

Oh, well. In some circles that would be a compliment. ~wink~ At least I have my toy back. And I moved on from the sixties, unlike some people.

Do you hold onto old technology or are you more the sort to shell out for the leading (aka cash ‘bleeding’) edge?

  1. I don't shell out for the latest technology. Too much money plus I probably wouldn't be able to operate it :-)

  2. HAHA....I still work on my laptop. I have a desktop I use for my photo editing for shoots. I never got the hang of a Kindle for reading. I rather hold a book! I use my iphone for calling, texting, the camera and posting them on FB! I have maybe...10 apps on there. I hardly ever get on the internet to look things up on my phone. And I still use an old fashion GPS instead of one on my phone! Personally, I prefer a bigger screen instead of looking into the phone. When it comes to putting things on a calendar, I use a paper one instead of the one on the phone! haha Never thought I would say that I was old fashion, but I think I am!

  3. My printer is probably 15 years old. It isn't wireless, so when I want to print, I have to plug the computer in to it. I still haven't figured out how to use the calendar on my phone, so I still use a wall calendar.

However, I just got a new laptop this summer, and my phone is only a couple years old. I do have a Nook (although that's 6 or 7 years old). I'd say I stay fairly current, but not cutting edge current.

  4. I'm not bothered at all about keeping up with the latest tech. If it still works, that's fine for me. To me, a Kindle Fire is high-tech! And I almost lost my (bog standard) Kindle too, on a train. I thought my wife had put it back in my bag but it was on the floor. We got off at the second to last stop on the line and luckily some kind soul handed it in at the main station. A miracle really!

  5. Oh, my word. I would think you were more cutting edge. However, you know what you like. I am a creature of habit. I find that, for me, there is security in sameness. HUGS!

    1. My partner will be amused that you considered me more with the times. Heh... I believe we are very much alike, though I wish I had your sweeter soul and poetic writing abilities. Hugs back to you, my dear.

  6. Would you believe I don't download music- I still use a cd player :) Love the Star Trek mug, my hubby is a trekkie. He has a mug that "beams" them up when something warm is in it. We also have a Star Trek themed Christmas tree in the dining room.

    1. I played one of my new Black Veil Brides CDs in the car yesterday, which amused my partner. It's a wonder the vehicle has one. So cool that you're big Trek fans. I'm always happy to learn more about you, dear. Be well!

  7. I don't even know what a Kindle Fire is. I have old computers that people donate and I'm fine with that. I don't use data on the phone because its not mine. my brother put me on his plan and I just use it for text and phone calls. I'm Ice Age.
