Chemical Warfare

I try not to use too many harsh chemicals these days (a little late for the remains of my eighties hair, sad to say). Still, sometimes vinegar and hot water or their harmless equivalents aren’t enough. One example is the goo on our water glasses.

You see I have a penchant for lip moisturizers, to the point there are tubes sequestered all around the house – my nightstand, table by the couch, near just about every favorite writing haunt. And the stuff does not want to come off once it gets on glass.

There are two very pretty glasses recently bought that I’m afraid to use, in fact. At least until today.

Fed up with ineffectual and exhaustive techniques, my partner decided to try a product called CLR. It worked! The calcium, lime, and rust remover actually conquered the fearsome power of my lips!

Just be sure you are careful if you use CLR. It’s so toxic that it will eat granite, so be careful of counters as well as your skin.

Do you have any home care tips? I would really appreciate any you care to share.

  1. Vinegar and water works wonders but I am not into the smell! So I do use Mr. Clean. I want to be sure things are really clean. Not as much concerned with the chemicals as I am the stuff we eat in our food. Crazy.

    1. That's so true about our foodstuffs! Fortunately, I am not like my father and do not mind the smell of vinegar. He used to come home around Easter time and complain if we were coloring eggs. ~ugs~ Be well!

    2. Not that I mind it so much, I just rather have something different than vinegar and I don't burn candles.

  2. I hand wash stuff, so I don't have issues with lip goo all over everything. Wiping it off with dish soap does the trick.

    1. Interesting. Thanks, Liz, for weighing in. I may as well hand wash things because this dishwasher doesn't do a very good job anyway. ~sigh~ I hope you are having a good Monday.

  3. I heard somewhere at some point use of lip moisturizers can be addicting. I don't know where I heard it.

    1. I believe it! As a young girl I grew addicted to body lotion, too. I'm definitely all about the moisture! ~grin~ Thanks for the comment.

  4. Vinegar and baking soda zap all stains, Darla! Of course, scotch brite - the scrub works too. Hugs!

  5. We are familiar with CLR. We have the very hardest water in this area. Bill used to breed tropical fish, and won awards. Not easy, with this water. He became an expert in it and making it work. Hugs!

    1. Ooh, I'd love to pick his brain about raising fish. ~grin~ I have two tanks. Wish I'd started larger than ten gallons. Pet stores don't want folks to know it but they are harder to care for than large tanks. Thanks for the comment.
