Tales from the Kitchen

I found a new use for my ginger infused cranberry chutney. Blending it with about an equal amount of yogurt and a splash of orange blossom water makes for a tart, still a bit spicy, yet mellowed smoothie. I should mix one up for tomorrow’s breakfast.

My husband also found an easy dessert called a dump cake. Despite the name and description, I strove for perfection the first time, spending way too much time spreading out each ingredient. I mean, come on, it’s called dump cake for a reason.

Today I heated the bottommost layer of canned pie filling, gave the sticky mess a quick smoothing swirl, and piled on the rest as directed. I’m sure the results will be no lest tasty. This one’s lemon once again but options are endless.
I should learn how to better photograph food...
LOL
Have you heard of dump cakes? Should I try strawberry components next?

  1. Sorry, I skipped yesterday's post because of your warning. I avoid anything sad if possible. The smoothie sounds good. I have heard of dump cake because a cousin brought one to my house for a gathering- it was good. XO

    1. One of my husband's few remaining pleasures at his age is food. So I enjoy making things he'll like.

  4. Dump cakes are great, so are poke cakes. A good poke cake is the Boston Cream....A cherry, pineapple, dump seems to go well, most like it. Go to Pinterest and key in Dump cakes or poke cakes.....amazing. Some ingredients I would never have though would go together.

  5. I've heard the term dump cake, but I have no idea what is in one or how one makes one. I'm sure it was tasty.
