Months ago, following a delicious meal of Chinese style orange chicken, my fortune cookie slip was forgotten in my pocket and rediscovered after it went through the washer and dryer. By that time I’d been well on the way to vegetable garden preparation and rereading it made me grin. Lunch at a hibachi/sushi place provided a perfect follow-on. While I don’t really believe in fortune telling it is fun to have received this boost.
Have you heard the history of fortune cookies deriving from Japan? Are you a fan of any Asian cuisine?

I like asian food but haven't had any in a while. Our good restaurants seems to have gone down hill lately.
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame. I have been accumulating more and more Asian ingredients to cook at home. :D
DeleteYes and I believe that they are older than the Chinese fortune cookies. Something I knew for a change.
ReplyDeleteI love all Asian food. Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese and the list goes on. I love the fortune cookies and always open them to see what will happen.
Have a fabulous weekend. Hugs. ♥
Hugs back, my dear.
DeleteHad Thai food last year, and although The Hubby put tofu in our food often, can't say that it's 'Asian' in any way.
ReplyDeleteHave always enjoyed the flavors, especially spicy.
I like spicy food, too, from the moment my husband introduced me to Buffalo wings on an early date. lol I applaud your eating habits, my dear.
DeleteUnlike in the US, we don't have anything like 'fortune cookies' here. It's a quite a fun thing. Yes, I have heard about its Japanese origin. One popular theory is that it was brought to California by the Japanese migrants. I like Asian cuisine.
ReplyDeleteWe also enjoy many, many regional Indian cuisines. :D Be well!
DeleteI hope it is true. You deserve good fortune after the rough year you have had so far. I love Asian cuisine in America not so sure I would enjoy it in Japan or China because they use a lot of fish of which I am not a fan. XO
ReplyDeleteThank you, my dear. ~hugs~ Funny enough, I just ate baked cod for lunch. Heh...
DeleteI read up on how to make fortune cookies once, but its quite demanding. I thought it would be so fun to insert some homemade fortunes. I hope your one about June comes true!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the kind words. A demanding Asian recipe I attempted was making mochi, which failed miserably. lol
DeleteI had heard about the origin of fortune cookies. So many things that we think are foreign were really developed here just using ingredients and ideas from other places. Have you seen "The Food That Built America" on the History Channel? Fascinating stuff.
ReplyDeleteHistory is fascinating, for sure. Thanks for the tip on this program.
DeleteNo, don't know anything about the cookies and Japan. Like you, I love to get them and read them. I need to read up on that....I love Asian food.
ReplyDelete:D
