It’s Another Day in Paradise

Today I took our car in for routine maintenance. My husband planned to drive our second vehicle for a drop-off but was in too much pain. Knowing the fluid changes would take several hours, I took advantage of the auto shop’s free shuttle service, but not for the twenty minute return home.

At my request the fellow drove me a short distance to an expensive gourmet grocery store. Feeling I deserved a treat, I purchased a few items including selections from their salad bar and a nice sushi platter. My lunch in Dorothy Lane Market’s free seating area was most pleasant as I looked upon passersby entering through steady dismal rain.

After eating I sent a message to my friend Scars, who lives nearby. He and his father didn’t need any grocery items but a visit would be nice, Scars replied.

It turns out my proximity was fortuitous. He admitted overdoing physical activity and suffering more extreme pain than the day after his hip replacement. It was sad witnessing this (lessening!) agony and rare (begrudging) request for assistance. I gladly bestowed his minor appeals and enjoyed seeing him and his dad. It’s a shame their shy kitty didn’t check me out while I saw to her basic needs.

Anyway, I am happy to report that my husband plans to see a specialist for his ongoing issues. Plus both our friends Scars and Phoenix are getting excellent care despite their setbacks. As a side note, I stole my title from Scars. “It’s another day in paradise” is his sardonic reply whenever someone asks how he’s doing, which speaks volumes about his stalwart nature.

My food photographs are not so good. lol Instead, here are some other fun photos from the market.

Entrance to where I ate lunch...

It seems wedding season approaches...

The butterfly drew my attention...

What riotous design options...

K & R were a monogram theme throughout...
Perhaps R and/or K are employees.

I wonder how much of these are edible...

Aren’t these cake designs wild? Would you choose one for your special event?

  1. I'm not a cake liker but those are beautiful! If only I liked cake. I don't even like frosting. I'm glad your hubby will see a specialist. Do you think he's got a slipped disc or something compressing a nerve?

  2. So bad for your husband and good that he is going to do something about his problem.
Does the carousel above the shop rotate? Even if it doesn't it looks great, as do the cakes except for the one with green decoration.

  3. Dearest Darla,
Nice for meeting with Scars and he's a very strong character indeed—regardless of his pain!
Hoping your husband soon finds some relief for his pain.
No, I'm not a cake person—those sugar bombs are off limits for my health.
    Hugs,

  4. wow....a black cake. Wonder if that would turn the teeth of the bride and groom...lol. Can you see that? Decorating cakes is like an art all its own. And being someone that has done painting and cake decorating, its not the same esp when it comes to mixing paint and frosting. I really thought paint, frosting....I got this. They don't mix like you think they would...lol. Sorry hubs is having so much pain. I am here to tell you, pain sucks the life from you.

    1. Thank you for the giggles and kind words. I hate to whine, but dealing with needy people in pain is draining, too. Blessings, my dear.

  5. There is a terrific website called CakeWrecks, where awfully decorated cakes are on display. It's freakin' hilarious.
I always want a LOT of frosting on my piece of cake.

  6. That does look like a fancy store. The cakes are beautiful. I am sure they cost a fortune though so I would opt for a cheaper choice. :) I hope your hubby gets some relief from his pain soon. XO

  7. When people ask how I am, sometimes I reply, "livin' the dream". It sounds like you had a nice time while your car was getting its maintenance. I know there are places like that that I never get to go to and need a special occasion to visit. Just being on errands is enough of a special occasion, I think.

  9. Nice you had a good time with your friend. Sometimes such quick meetups are more fun that an elaborately planned ones. I hope your husband's visit to a specialist will help.

  10. To each their own and all that jazz, but dad says some of those cakes are a tad gaudy. Funny you mention that expensive gourmet grocery store- right around here there are three or four "gourmet", "organic" & "natural" food stores. All crazy overpriced. It's sad that for people to eat more "natural" stuff they have to spend so much.

So sorry to hear your husband is in so much pain. Good to hear he is going to see a specialist. Hope it gives him some relief.
