Quite a Pickle

Our garden is producing so many cucumbers that SO needed to get more dill pickling supplies. Among them, the all important dill seed. Well, it seems our neighbors are in the same… um… pickle.

Sorry. I suppose you saw that on the horizon, though. Eh?

Anyway, the store was out of their generic branded seeds. Desperate, SO bought the only other option available at the moment.
$5.99! I don't think so...
An online search, fortunately, turned up a less expensive option. He paid less than twice the price of that little jar for a one pound bag! We have the receipt for the unopened bottle, so he plans on returning it, fibbing that he bought the wrong spice.

Grown in India and Shipped to Our Door
Would you be honest to the clerk about McCormick's outrageous price?

  1. We don't do organic here. It's way high and often not as good. I'm returning it too and fibbing.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥

    1. Agreed. And sometimes organic produce carries more pathogens from the farming technique. ~sigh~ Hope you're having a lovely day, my dear.

  2. Garden fresh cucumbers are very popular here, with our without the pickling stuff!

  3. I'd tell them, "I found it cheaper." But, once I had it, I probably would have kept it, rather than wait for an online order.

But, I am fortunate to have a store, Winco, that sells spices and herbs by weight. So, I can buy 1/4 tsp of something a recipe calls for, instead of a jar! It might cost .03 for my turmeric! It's also how I buy a few raw peanuts and banana chips for the pet rat! And flour, poppy seeds, dried tortellini, malted milk balls, fresh ground peanut butter... they have sooo much in bins!

    1. The bag actually arrived before he needed to open the bottle, so we lucked out. I'm envious that you have such a store. ~grin~ So glad that works out for you.

  4. Why does he have to say anything? "I need to return this. Here's the receipt." When I worked retail, I didn't much care why someone was returning something, especially when it was in an unopened package. All I cared about was if it could be resold. If it couldn't be resold, then I needed to know if it was broken.

  5. If I lived near you, I would give you lots of fresh dill. We use that in our pickles, I make them in jars and the hubby makes them in a big crock.

    1. You're sweet! We're actually planning to grow it, and wondering where best to plant. ~nods~ Fresh is best, right?

  7. I probably would not just cause the clerk can't do anything about it and the store itself will NOT do anything about it. NOW, on the flip side of that, you have seen my up and down mood changes via my blog (I am not really that bad) but if I was returning that and something, or someone pissed me off beforing to the store, I probably would mouth off about it, still keeping in mind that the clerk can't change it but I would feel better taking it out (or taking something out) on someone or something! haha....NOW....I need to look around and LAUGH about something....haha

  8. Oops, just found your blog again. You linked to a new blog on your comment on my site so I went there -- you ignore the comment there, lol.

How is your pickling going? I would've returned the higher price item too.

    1. I'm not very adept with technology. ~shakes head~ Thanks for finding me. I should add my link in comments. The pickling proceeds in earnest. ~grin~ Be well!
