An Interesting Morning

It’s not quite 10am as I type this. My day has had an inauspicious start. And I still need to go to the grocery store.

So far I cleaned up what felt like a quart of messy cat vomit, got swarmed by pavement ants, and got hit on the head by a shovel. No, it was not a result of marital discord. The accident happened as a result of my careless placement of the shovel against a garbage bin and SO’s typical oblivion toward our surroundings.

I was busy working on a flower bed from which the ants would soon boil. At least nothing necessitated a trip to the emergency room. In addition, my two strawberry and three lavender plants are settled for the season. I’ve never grown either before, so wish me luck.

Meanwhile, I have yet to work on my writing. My fingertips are tender from yard work, so I’ll let them rest while going for groceries.

How is your weekend so far?

  1. I hate ants, they're everywhere this year, like living on a giant ant hill. I fight them every year, but they win in the end, when I tire of the fight. There are big ones swarming the county park where I go to sit by the river. The tiny holes in the dirt, that they use to emerge from their runs, are everywhere and I can almost imagine the massive overloaded highway system beneath my feet. They probably complain about congestion too. When they boil out into daylight, its a fearful sight. I have read some about ant colonies. They attack one another, enslave their enemies, all too common of traits in my human world to be comfortable with such tactics from the ants. I do not underestimate the ants.

    1. Yikes! I'm thankful these little ones aren't biters. They were all over my bottom pants legs and sneakers before I knew what was happening. Take care!

  2. Oh, you deserve a rest before grocery shopping. I don't mind shopping, I hate putting things away!
I am still having breakfast (made a coffee cake, so far I'm the only one up to eat it), so my day is new. It's going to be a lovely day, and I hope to get most of my vegetable seeds planted. I also want to finish painting the trim around doors inside (I'm sprucing up because my eldest son is coming in less than 2 weeks, I haven't seen him in years!).
Good luck with the strawberries and lavender. I have pill bug problems with strawberries. What kind of lavender? I have 7 kinds!
    (Seeds get mailed Monday.)

    1. Ah, thank you. I don't enjoy shopping, but music through my headphones helps. ~grin~ So glad you'll be reunited with your son! Enjoy, my dear. I already forget what type of lavender I bought. ~shakes head~ I picked up two of one unusual looking sort and one more traditional because I thought they would compliment one another. Then I ended up separating them because the spot chosen today after reading up on them proved too small. Oh, well, the one near my strawberries will be enjoyable while harvesting just as the other two will brighten my sidewalk to the front door. Thanks again for the seeds!

  3. My day started the same- the vomit part. Luckily, no ants or hits to the head with a shovel. I hope you are OK.

  5. Morning....my weekend was nice. Few little issues here and there but it helped Sat. to get the camera out and go for a ride. Plus....I try to laugh and find something funny about any issue that comes about at home. Biggest issue has been ants (but not outside), mine come in every spring and hang a few weeks. This time it seemed like they hung longer and longer and had NO DESIRE to leave. I used spray a couple of times but due to the furbabes I try to avoid that. FINALLY it appears as if they are leaving. I find one here and there but not like I was....oh did I mention that they always appear of course in the kitchen? haha....sorry for your day but glad you were able to work in the flowers.

    1. I really like the pictures you've shared! We endured ants in the kitchen for the first time in years. Ugh... Thanks for the kind words. I had a thought that perhaps there is a reason bedrooms are generally far from kitchens in the homes I've seen - to keep typical invaders from ending up in our beds!

  6. Oh dear, not a good start to the weekend. I hope it improved. Mine was full of work as, even though I'm supposed to be semi-retired, I'm working full time at the moment. Therefore lots of chores to catch up on. Be happy.

  7. Yikes. Those are not good days. Time to go in and hide from the world. Watch something mindless on TV. I hope you're all better today.

  8. I hate it when I do stuff that ends up hurting me. That shovel has been done by me too. I'm glad you didn't have a medical emergency though.

We had a lovely weekend on the boat with our yacht club. Just got home this afternoon.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥

  9. The garage door story sounds interesting! haha...Hey, there were NO NO Trespassing signs, had there been, I would not have gone in. But let me find another like this and I will go in again. Debbie would not go upstairs with me, even suggested I might need not go cause there might be someone up there. My reply ~ with all the noise I am making downstairs, I bet they ran and hid.

    1. You are so cool and funny. I'm more like Debbie, though perhaps in part due to a rather timid spouse. There have been instances when I've gone on little similar adventures with my one brother and past boyfriends. Be well!
