Hide and Go Seek

Yesterday, I trimmed the dead blooms off my rose bushes. Suddenly realizing that a bright green leaf sprouted legs, I found myself confronted by a katydid. These used to get into my parents’ house when I was a kid and disturb me with their sheer size. Now, I found it beautiful and decided to share the lovely image that an online conservation report borrowed from Mjlaff on Fickr. Happy gardening!

  1. Yeah! It was easily as big as my thumb but gentle as could be when handled. :)

  2. I don't think I'd ever seen a katydid before. That is a really nifty bug right there. I've always been fascinated by the imitation-style insects. Walking sticks always fascinated me, and this is just as neat.

  3. We have a few of those around here, but not many.

Mostly we have these giant six inch (or longer) grass hoppers that fly very erratically. I saw one go splat on a parked car's windshield.
