Thursday Thirteen - How Much Stuff is Too Much?

I’ve taken to watching a show about hoarding lately. The tales are sad but hard to turn off and make me realize that there are collections in my home that could stand to be thinned out. While my buying isn’t out of control, I do have these things in abundance. Many will probably surprise no one within the writing community.

1. Books

2. Pens

3. CD’s

4. Greeting cards from loved ones

5. Notebooks

6. Clothing

7. Hair accessories

8. Halloween decorations

9. Comic books

10. Cat toys

11. Jewelry

12. DVD’s

13. Mugs

  1. You know, I'm not sure you can have too many books, cat toys or hair accessories. But I hear you on the mugs.

  2. The only problem would be if you find you can't fit in your house and have to move. I suppose non-working pens that have no other appeal (like cuteness) should go. Great list.

  5. I have drawers overflowing with pens, yet I can't stop buying them...

    Great list!

  6. I don't have the greeting cards or the clothing, but I'm with you on the rest of the list.

  7. My house IS an episode of Hoarders. LOL! Yeah. I have a bunch of ALL of those things.

  8. I'm with the others. There is no such thing as too many books. I don't have a chance to hoard. Hubby is always thinning out our possessions.

  9. I really enjoyed these supportive and fun comments! Thank you, dears. And Dilo, you seem to know my pen collection. There are some with dried up ink that are just too cute to get binned.

  11. I haven't watched the shows but I have seen specials on hoarding and they make me rethink some of my own collections. Although any over attachment I had to my things primarily passed on our cross-country move and currently I'm considering emptying that closet in the spare room. I'll let you know if I actually get around to it. *grin*

  12. Other than numbers 8 and 9, I have far too much of all of those as well! We keep looking at our wall of CDs and telling ourselves we really should rip them and then store the originals in CD binders, but the task seems Herculean.

  13. I've started tagging books and office supplies for different purposes: home desk, work desk, writing desk... so I feel like I can't have too many.

    Delusional? Probably :D

  14. I don't think letters from loved ones are something to thin out. No one else seems to agree with me, but I don't care: I keep them in file pockets separated by year, and have specific files for family stuff. They're heart-warming to go through later. :)

  15. I can concur on almost every one of those items. I did a closet clean out last winter and vowed not to buy another item of clothing in 2011. So far, so good. And the hair accessories... it's crazy how those multiply, isn't it?

Good list, nice to guard against the hoarding!
