My Mundane Adventures

My husband spent three days hospitalized for kidney issues. His primary care doctor thought taking him off a certain medication would turn things around but the nephrologist disagreed.

Fortunately, Dr. T was correct while the kidney doctor’s hospitalization order gave me a tiny respite. I remained busy, such as taking one of our two cars in for repairs, yet otherwise enjoyed extra peace and quiet.

Now he is home sleeping as I type this Wednesday evening around 6pm. Fingers crossed, changes made to medications will improve our quality of life. He regained a reasonable appetite following weeks of forcing food down. And I hope his downbeat demeanor improves.

On a funny note, my adventures regarding the auto repair shop proved a bit crazy. We scheduled a tire rotation, oil change, and the impetus for the appointment was having a check engine light investigated. Knowing all this would take some time I asked for their free shuttle service and had the driver take me to a local gourmet market.

I’ve done this once before. The shop encourages folks to linger in two comfortable seating areas. I settled in with a bagel and interesting beverage. They offered a turmeric and ginger spiced chai latte. I enjoyed the interesting warm drink most and anticipated a tasty lunch of perhaps a lamb pie or fresh made sushi.

However, just before noon I received notice that the diesel fueled vehicle needed serious repairs to the tune of over $1000 (USD) and a necessary part wouldn’t arrive until the next day. We decided to make the investment.

All I needed to do now was get a ride home. Upon calling I was told that our home ranged well beyond their complimentary car service area but she’d check with the manager.

I’m happy to report he made the correct choice. After being customers who’ve spent thousands of dollars over the last two decades I planned to raise hell if refused transportation.

What looks like snow is residue from the
failed diesel exhaust residue tank...

When dropped off by the driver I went to dig out my house key. I’m sure you can guess that it was attached to the car key fob left behind.

We are blessed with kind neighbors, one of whom gave me a ride that took forty minutes total round trip plus the time it took recovering my house key. In gratitude, the least we can do is offer him and his wife fuel point savings from grocery shopping, most of which will expire before we can possibly use them all.

Are you a fan of any particular herbs and/or spices? Have you ever found yourself locked out of your home?

    1. I once had to get back into my house through a cat door. It took awhile, involved duct tape, a stick, a mirror, getting one shoulder and arm through, and getting the stick with duct tape stuck onto the doorknob, to turn it. After that, I removed that cat door. I once had to break the garage door window to get in. It's now boarded over.

  3. Dearest Darla,
Wishing your husband all the very best for his kidney health.
What a horror with the housekey still being on the car key fob!

  4. Here's hoping the new med amts will bring the relief needed.
The Hubby locked me out of the house once (or twice) when I went outside to hang with my 'O' Cats, and he figured that I was inside. I make sure to never leave the house without my keys now, just in case...

  6. I’m glad to hear that your husband is doing better and that you’re seeing some improvements with his treatment. As for the car situation, it’s good to know that the shop came through for you in the end! Sometimes a bit of persistence is all it takes to make sure you're treated fairly, especially after being a loyal customer for so long. I hope the rest of the week brings more calm and less chaos your way!

How is Saturday going? Read my new post. Thank you. https://www.melodyjacob.com/2024/11/holiday-glam-budget-christmas-outfit-ideas.html

  7. Oh dear, Miss Darla- we sure hope the hubby's health bounces back quick-like. Bless your heart for your patience, too, and we're glad you got at least a tiny bit of peace and quiet. Dad says he's all too familiar with that kind of vehicle-related experience, and he has, indeed, locked himself out of the house on more than one occasion over the years. He even said once, while living alone in his bachelor years he woke outside standing in his front yard. He came to, banging on the door, yelling for someone (remember- he lived alone) to let him in. He then broke a pane of glass on the door, reached in and unlocked it, then got right into bed and fell asleep as if nothing weird had just happened.

  8. Sorry to hear about your husband's health but good to hear he is on the mend. A second sorry on your car woes. I have locked myself out once. I was very pregnant and went grocery shopping. Stopped to pick up some fries at the local McDonalds (cravings) and when I got home I couldn't find my keys. Thankfully we lives in an apartment and we had a semi furnished storage room near the garage. I just hung out their eating my fries till my husband arrived to let me in. I don't remember what happened to the keys.. but that was not fun.

  10. HI....spices and herbs, I love rosemary, oregano, basil, garlic and for spices, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sorry to hear about hubs but glad that he is doing better and that you did have some down time. I hate dealing car trouble. I hate dealing with crap like that. Used to I took things like that on, head first but now, I just don't like dealing. Well yep, I have locked myself out several times...lol, out of the car too. When I moved, Theresa had a key and so did my neighbor down the street. Amber has one now and I am seriously thinking of hiding one somewhere around the house. Decisions, decisions, decisions....
