The news of Debbie Reynolds passing the day after her daughter Carrie Fisher added further insult to another injury. I pray for their grieving family and friends.
Like so many others I have found myself looking up the biographies of those talented actors, actresses, and musicians we have lost. Yesterday was no exception.
This time I enjoyed a surprising upside. I found the movie clip of Ms. Reynolds singing "Tammy" in the 1957 film "Tammy and the Bachelor". While never having seen the romantic comedy I was happy to learn the tune's origin.
You see, my mother sang "Tammy" as a lullaby during my childhood. It's neat to know that the movie made such an impact on her that she sang it to her only daughter twenty years later.
I'll be sure to call my mom and share the memory. My thanks to nednickerson2010 for posting the video on Youtube:

It's truly been a hard year - so many deaths. Thanks for sharing this video. I have watched a few of Debbie Reynolds' movies, but haven't seen this movie or heard this song.
ReplyDeleteI hope 2017 is a better year for the world. Wishing you and your family every good thing, Darla.
Thank you for the lovely sentiment, Corinne. Blesings to you and yours as well.
DeleteI used to watch the Tammy movies when I was a teen and I loved them. Loved hearing Debbie Reynolds sing, "Tammy's in love". And being a Star Wars fan I also watched Carrie Fisher. For me it has been a rough year with a five day stay in the hospital, surgery, family issues, my fibro and finding out I have a liver issue. Only one good thing taking place and that would be retirement! Here is to hoping your yr and mine is better. Thank you so much for coming to my blog. I have had such an issue getting folks to follow.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to read about your horrible health concerns. Best wishes on a better year, for sure. I have a desire to watch "The Blues Brothers" now for Ms. Fisher's wonderful cameo. The sewer scene slays me. Happy retirement!
DeleteI remember Tammy. My grandmother used to sing the song to me. Happy new year to you. ☺❤
ReplyDeleteThank you! How sweet that you have a similar memory. Best wishes, my dear.
DeleteIt's already 2017 in Australia. I saw that on Facebook and laughed. So many people really hated this year.
ReplyDeleteIt's been something, for sure. Thank you for sharing the chuckle!
DeleteBest wishes for 2017 and better health. Wishing you and your family a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Best wishes to you and yours, my dear.
DeleteI remember that song. Carrie Fisher's death made me want to watch all the Star Wars movie. I only saw the original 3 but I can't find them for rent anywhere, you have to buy them I guess.
ReplyDeleteI loved the original three movies. Now, everything looks like a CGI fest. Even main characters are digital! Sad. Thank you for stopping by, my friend. Be well.
DeleteYou bet. It's been a crazy ride.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2017!
Happy New Year to you! Thank you for stopping by.
DeleteWhat a bumpy ride we had in 2016. Things can only get better...can't they?

I sure hope so! At least my parents are settled safely, permanently in their southern home and I have my health. Best wishes, my friend!
DeleteIt's been such a sad year for celebrity deaths, hasn't it? I think Tammy is such a sweet song.
ReplyDeleteI agree on all counts. Thank you, my dear, for stopping by. How is Carlton, by the way? ~grin~ He always cheers me.
DeleteJust dropped by again to wish you a great start to 2017!
ReplyDeleteThank you! So far it has been joyful and productive. I wish you all the best, my dear.
DeleteI was so sad to hear of Carrie Fisher's passing, and then her mother...just awful. I stood in line to watch the first Star Wars movie and I still remember how awed I was by the movie. And I LOVE Singing in the Rain. We lost a lot of great people in 2016.
ReplyDeleteWe sure did. Thanks for weighing in. Unfortunately, I learned the other day about another loss - Miquel Ferrer, who I've enjoyed watching for decades. Sad.
DeleteI'm listening to Carrie Fisher's book about her Star Wars days right now. She reads it, so it's weird having her voice in my ears while I'm walking at the gym.
ReplyDeleteOh, that sounds cool. Good on you for working out. I plan on swimming today and lifting weights tomorrow. ~grin~
DeleteDarla, going through and reading your comments at my blog. Thanks....you are probably right about where I should put my descript on the paintings. Thanks for the suggestions. I took painting classes for five yrs under an art teacher. It was more of a fun get together. My teacher wrote out my colors and what to mix with what to get the right color on my first night there. She would be there to assist if you needed help. After that first night I just took it and ran with it. Only every so often did I request help. The talent I think is inside me and I just needed a push to get it out. My five yrs with the class was an adult get together and I continued with it for the friends and the time I had with all them.
ReplyDeleteWow! You are so talented. No wonder the class was more of a gathering. Those can be very inspiring.
